LinkedIn Profile Optimisation Workshop: Maximize Your Professional Impact

An active LinkedIn profile enhances your visibility and can attract recruiters. When using LinkedIn proactively, you are engaging in content marketing. Using strategies to optimize your profile helps you stand out in LinkedIn searches and may capture the attention of hiring managers. Like any other social media platform, you can use LinkedIn strategically to improve your profile’s visibility by using relevant keywords. This is, in effect, an exercise in Search Engine Optimisation in support of your personal brand.

Do I really need to build a personal brand?

Yes, but you don’t have to become an influencer! Building a personal brand is a fancy way of saying that you’re building a professional reputation. It’s all about defining your unique value and consistently communicating your skills, experiences, and passions. You want to create an impression that resonates with your target audience – employers and peers. Your LinkedIn profile is more than just an online CV. If you want to write a strong CV, check out our blog post Best AI Tips for a Standout CV: Insights from Resume Building with Rohan Malhotra – ESCP. Once your CV stands out as much as it can, LinkedIn provides a layer of rich context for anyone who’s looking out for someone with your talents.

Speak your truth and grow

Think about it this way: You use your professional truth to create an optimised LinkedIn profile and you pepper it with keywords optimised for reach and visibility on LinkedIn. Today we’re focusing on the profile, but you will need to share content and comments to keep your profile “alive” and active. This gains you visibility with and potential attention from employers. They give you opportunities to gain experience, which you then use to update your profile as you grow professionally.

Can AI tools help me optimise my profile?

If you believe the hype, then all you need now is to harness cutting-edge AI tools for profile enhancement. Everywhere – including on LinkedIn itself – you can find tools that promise to streamline and optimise your profile. Take your pick. But be cautious – generative AI tools are not intelligent. They are mostly large language models that try to simply guess the next word you want to read from them. This can give the impression that they are intelligent, but they can lead to bland profiles and posts that sound like a medley of previous content the model has been trained with. This goes back to one of the most important rules when dealing with generative AI – never let the robot write for you!

There are however uses where these tools can help you: LLMs are good at looking at patterns in texts and guessing what a reader would expect next. When you are trying to optimise your profile for search results, this can be useful. You want to make sure your search terms are recognisable and reasonably common. The balancing act is to serve attractive keywords with a wide appeal, with a profile that then differentiates you from other profiles. This is, in my opinion, more an art than a science.

How can I get started?
